What the damage revealed
Raccoons are persistent and surprisingly strong. A coop can look secure while still having vulnerable edges, loose fasteners, lightweight latches, or openings that can be pulled apart.
What I look for before repairing
- Loose or damaged wire and fasteners
- Gaps around doors, corners, rooflines, and the ground
- Latches that can be lifted or manipulated
- Soft, split, or weather-damaged framing
- Places where an animal can get leverage
